This is where we began
It was March 8, 1998. As soon as my son was born, I knew everything had changed. I knew everything must change. I knew I had to change.
I had intentionally built a professional reputation based on delivering excellence but now, after delivering my son, I knew I must do even more.
So, I invite responsibility.
If I wanted both a career and a life of parenthood, I had to not only accept greater responsibility, I had to create opportunity. I had to say yes to things that moved me forward both personally and professionally. I had to be intentional about finding the “yes/and” opportunities.
So, I embrace rigor.
To make a balanced personal and professional life a reality, I utilized my existing relationships, created habits of discipline, and redefined, not only myself, but the nature of work, by tele-commuting.
So, I go beyond.
To prove myself and my work capable, I had to learn more about my changing industry, moving from the world of direct mailers to that of e-commerce. I had to work while rocking the cradle, burning the midnight oil, or taking the redeye home.
So, I chase potential.
Habits create opportunities. Opportunities are born from preparation. Although I worked out of my basement, I showed up at work dressed for “the office”, mentally prepared to think, speak, and act as I would “at work”. I knew as the TMG team grew, I would provide the model for how we get things done. From work attire to working tirelessly, I set the standards and must still live up to them.
So, I speak openly.
As a TMG team, we have changed and grown rapidly these past years. We’ve encountered obstacles and shared in celebrations. All the while, we have maintained our reputation as those who deliver excellence.
